We learnt many things about Aborigines at camp. Here are some of the most interesting facts we learnt.
Aboriginals use boomerangs and spears to catch their food and sometimes tied sharp bits of flint to their spears. To cook their food they rubbed two sticks together to make a fire. We attempted this and it is very hard. If they get hurt they use the sap of the elephant ear plants to numb the wound but the medicine man needs to be careful because the sap can kill the victim.
Wild ginger has edible berries and the aborigines suck on them when they are thirsty. They also weave baskets from grass stems. Aboriginals believed that when they died they came back as something else.

Life at camp was good though you could only have two minutes showers so we didn’t waste water. For tea we had yummy food like lasagne and salad. On the first night we played games while on the second night we looked at the stars and Mark told us how the Aboriginals saw it.
We had lights out at 9.30 and Mrs. Frost told us a story to settle us and make us to go to sleep. In the morning we woke up at 6:00am and had to get dressed and go have breakfast. We were not allowed to stay in our PJs so we got dressed and played the Mickey Mouse game. After we finished breakfast we did the washing up and started day.

At camp the principal, Mark taught us about electricity and we would like to share it with you.
We use electricity almost for everything like phones, T.V, computers, DVD players, lights, fanes and so on. Most of the electricity we use is made by burning chunks of coal. We use a lot of electricity every day so more coals gets used.
This is bad for the habitat and all animals, because it makes greenhouse gases and it does heaps of damage. If we could halve our electrical use it will give us less bills, help save the environment and make Gympie a better place.
If a storm comes and our power goes out, you can make electricity in different ways.
You can use wind, hydro (water) or solar power. Solar is the best to use if you take our advice but both hydro and wind are ok too.

On the first night at camp we had a games night with four different activities.
We had a straw race and you had to pick a partner. You had to hop on your hands and knees with a straw and a ping-pong ball and race around a course. Taylah thought it was cool. Merve says it would have been cool too and she wishes she had been on camp.
On the same night we had fun with puzzles, with pictures of stars, planets and space. They were all different colours. We had a race and the first group finished was meant to get a prize but we got nothing other than that it was really fun. Taylah said that it wasn’t more fun than straw racing but it was nice anyway.
Charades were another activity. There was a person who acted as Batman, others who were a snake, cat, mouse, spider and even Harry Potter. It was fun! Merve said that if she had gone to camp she would’ve thought it was nice because she likes playing games like that one.
The very last activity was pontoon. It is a game where you have chips (Not that you eat!). You have cards with numbers. You put money on the card (Not really money). You have to get as close as you can to 21 points, if you get over 21 you bust. We had to try to beat Mr Luck. Taylah thought that it was fun. Elyse said that if she had been at camp she would have liked it too. IT WAS REALLY FUN!!!

On Thursday night Mark (Principal) took us out to show us galaxies. We looked at star signs and planets. He showed us a board with all-star signs on it. He told us a story about two little boys and emu. Where the little boys steel both eggs and eats them and the emu eats the boys up.

We travelled by bus to and from camp and we were on the bus for an hour and a half each way. When we got to camp we had the Morning tea that we had packed, not long after we then had the lunch we also taken with us.
Our cook’s name was Alison and she made our food and it was beautiful. We had lasagna and salad while for desert we had apple crumble and custard. On the second night we had the chicken Schnitzel and potato bake and for desert we had big slabs of ice cream.
On the way home some people made their hair look funny.

When we went to camp in the water cycle we did experiments with water like making a solar still. Anne, Taylah and Madie did soapie water using a glass, a tin and detergent. It was lemon flavour.
We left it out in the sun for 2 to 3 hours. Then we tasted the water and it tasted like soap and lemon.
We also put plastic bags on trees to gather water to see what plants produce the most glucose. We found out that leaves that are out in the sun for longer produce more water then the ones in the shade. We also noticed that the ones that produced most are a darker green because they have more chloroplasts in them.

For free time we mostly played tag, hand ball, ring swing, and throw the ring. Some times people played chess.
One day we were banned from playing tag because Some people annoyed a red belly black snake in the compost bins and people were running through the gardens.
We weren’t happy at all but it was our fault. We also went in to the library. It wasn’t much of a library, more like a little museum.

People can recycle food scraps like; banana peals, apple scraps, orange skins crust etc. composting can bring in many animals like worms and caterpillars.
But then there’s a greedy one. This bacteria does not like air so to prevent them getting in and stealing all the food you need to make sure that the food is at the top and spaced out. Then they all have to climb to the top so they all get the air and probably die.
You mustn’t put plastic in there because it will take 20 000 years to break down and don’t put wrapped up food in there because no creature can unwrap the food.
So always make sure with composting that there’s food scraps, the food is at the top and spaced out and don’t put rubbish in there.

On the last day of camp we were challenged with the Ropes Course. This had long ropes, short ropes, thick ropes, thin ropes and logs.
We had spotters, Ben’s spotters were Brad and Leigh, while Josh’s spotters were Liam and Billy. Ben fell off sometimes because of his spotters. Josh fell off four times. Ben stayed on the log for ten seconds. The last rope was called the ‘Criss-cross postman’.
